PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Coordinates and performs clerical functions for the Department of Nuclear Medicine at both Christiana and Wilmington hospitals. Also occasionally provides coverage for Non-invasive. Responsible for greeting and registering patients, obtain billing information, answer telephones, and route calls.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Answers telephones, takes messages, and routes calls.
- Schedules all inpatient and outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for Nuclear Medicine.
- Greets and properly registers patients.
- Obtains billing information from patients.
- Escorts or directs patients to designated areas for tests.
- Relays test results by phone and/or fax.
- Creates patient files in Powerchart and/or Radnet.
- Create charts for patients to organize paperwork for the healthcare team.
- Orders and maintains department supplies from Office Depot.
- Files patient paperwork from the previous day and disposes of the previous month patient paperwork in file cabinet.
- Performs assigned work safely, adhering to established departmental safety rules and practices. Reports to supervisor, in a timely manner, any unsafe activities, conditions, hazards, or safety violations that may cause injury to oneself, other employees, patients, and visitors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school graduate or its equivalent.
- Two years clerical experience.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to type accurately 40 wpm.
- Ability to enter and retrieve information from computer terminal.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Knowledge of CPT codes for billing purposes.
- Ability to communicate orally.
- Ability to be efficient, able to organize, and prioritize work assignments.
- Exercises judgment, tact, and diplomacy.
