DESCRIPTION OF WORK

As a Geoscience Trainee, there is a 12-month training period, during which time you will be trained to perform the duties of a Geoscientist.

This is a professional and technical position in the Environmental Cleanup & Brownfields Program of the Northeast Regional Office. In this role, you will analyze and resolve environmental contamination problems related to specific hydrogeologic situations, including complex and unique hydrogeologic regimes associated with soil and/or groundwater pollution problems.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

• Full-time employment.
• Work hours are 8:00 am to 4:00 pm, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
• Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time up to 3 days a week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

• Possession of an active Geologist-in-Training certificate issued by or acceptable to the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors, and Geologists; or
• A bachelor's degree in geology, geophysics, geochemistry, engineering geology, or a closely related field including or supplemented by 30 college credits in geologic coursework; or
• An equivalent combination of experience and training that includes 30 college credits in geologic coursework.
• Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree/credits.

Necessary Special Requirement:

• All positions require possession of an active Pennsylvania non-commercial Class C driver’s license or equivalent.
